In just over 200 years the United States of America has risen from being a colony of England to become the most prosperous nation in the history of the world. What led to this prosperity? Was it just our own efforts or was Divine Providence involved?
Psalm 33:12 is a promise that God would bless the nation that honors Him and America has certainly been blessed. Our Founding Fathers recognized the importance of reliance upon God and wrote this into our Declaration of Independence. From generation to generation a nation changes and 21st century America is a much different place than envisioned by our forefathers.
Morality has become a difficult matter for our generation. We kicked God out of the classroom and in less than fifty years our schools have moved from monitoring chewing gum activity to checking for guns. TV has evolved from shows about Andy Griffith (with a nice moral lesson) into the idol worship of singers. The singers receive worship from adoring fans with their hands raised swooning to the music like at a Pentecostal church service. Sodomy was thought so offensive it used to be against law...but today its practitioners want spiritual and moral legitimacy granted to them through marriage. Speaking of marriage, this generation of Americans has succeeded at setting the highest divorce rate in our history. We also have the highest personal bankruptcy rate.
Former President Clinton lies to America on national TV about his wandering ways and instead of America being outraged we overlooked it because the economy was doing well. Jesus warned that we cannot serve God and mammon. 21st century America told the whole world we would accept moral compromise for economic prosperity and a few years later some Muslim extremists bombed our "trade centers." There were other side effects to the acceptance of our wandering and lying leader as studies show that today's teenagers (young children during the Clinton lie) are more inclined to engage in casual oral sex than previous generations. Moral decay is spreading through the land and without a change of heart America could become a history lesson like the Roman Empire or Babylon. May God help us?
